About Data for Good

Data for Good at UGA brings together students and community leaders from around Athens-Clarke and Georgia to create real change. Each month, we host discussions, debates, and panels on various, data-related topics from facial recognition software to the spread of misinformation.

In addition to meetings, members can participate in any of our ongoing projects. We strive to use data and technology to make a real social impact by supporting local coalitions and movements and by using data to identify and study problems in our community.

Check out our schedule for the 2020-21 school year below!

2020-21 Schedule

This fall, we will be hosting a variety of meetings, panels, workshops, and project sessions. They will cover topics ranging from introductory data analysis to the discussion of computational biology, always focusing on the subject's civic applications.

No matter the type, our events and meetings are full of inviting and respectable discussion, collaboration, and activity. We hope to see you there!

Data for Good Civic Hackathon

In Spring 2021, Data for Good at UGA and the Terry College MSBA Program will be hosting UGA’s first civic hackathon.

What is a civic hackathon?
A spin on a traditional hackathon in which the focus is on solving critical issues in the local community. Some of our key objectives with the civic hackathon are:
  • Using data to improve citizen services and increase government accountability
  • Utilizing technology to empower citizens
  • Enabling information and data as a public good
